welcome compatible individuals of all cultural, social and professional backgrounds. Volunteers are an integral part of our mission and are considered a crucial part of our staff. Our cadre of volunteers work three shifts a day; seven days a week to help us fully realize our commitment to children and families.
There are various opportunities to serve children with lifespan limiting illnesses and their families. These include:
Kids & Family Volunteers*
Provide care, support and friendship to our children, siblings and families. Activities include: reading, schoolwork, arts and crafts, baking, storytelling, or puppetry. You may be asked to listen to a parent who needs to talk or sit at the bedside of a dying child. An in-depth training is provided as part of the screening process for this position.
Peer (Teen) Volunteers*
In conjunction with our Kids & Family Volunteers you will play, read, create arts and crafts or play computer games with the children. Students must be at least 16 years of age. In-depth training is provided as part of the screening process for this position.
Kitchen Volunteers*
Assist in our kitchen with meal preparations and clean up.
Office Volunteers*
Help our administrative staff with various office-related tasks, including: answering phones, greeting guests, word processing or opening the mail. Our Development Office in San Francisco needs help, too, with special mailings, grant applications, and fund raising.
Special Event Volunteers
Assist the Development Department with promotional and fundraising activities. (Locations: San Leandro & San Francisco)
Speaker’s Bureau Volunteers
Build awareness for the House by speaking to or conducting tours for companies, community organizations or school groups.
Garden Volunteers
Work in our gardens with our landscape and gardening crews.
*Designated volunteers are required to commit to a regular schedule of four hours per week, for one year
