Admission Criteria
The George Mark Children’s House [GMCH] welcomes children from birth to 19 years for respite, transitional, or end of life palliative care. Young adults will be considered for admission on a case by case basis.
GMCH will use the following criteria for admitting children and their families to our program.
- progressive life span limiting conditions without a curative option
- life span limiting conditions where treatment is feasible but may not lead to a cure
- conditions arising from a severe neurological disability that require at least one skilled nursing need and meet at least two of the following criteria:
- currently hospitalized and / or recent history of repeated hospitalizations
- loss of already achieved developmental milestones and functioning.
- increasing health challenges and severity of symptoms
- will benefit from our interdisciplinary services
Helpful reminders for families and referring agencies:
The George Mark Children’s House:
- does not bill a family although monetary donations are welcome
- does not require a family to have health insurance
- does not require a family to sign a do not resuscitate or allow natural death order
- does have physicians on staff and on call
- does require families to bring all home care supplies, all equipment, and all medications required for daily care [we do not have an on-site pharmacy]
