Create a Tile Day
Tile Day, a semi-annual event where families who have had children pass away at GMCH, return to make a tile in memory of their loved one. Our beautiful Tile Memory Wall, created with the support and creative vision of Anthony Knutson of the Art for Life Foundation**, is made up of unique creations from aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, parents, and siblings.
--------
** The Art For Life Foundation provides various programs for children and families in several cities across the United States. At GMCH they’ve helped families create wonderful tiles as a tribute to loved ones. The Art for Life Program, was designed, created and overseen nationwide by founder, Anthony Knutson. For more information go to Art for Life Foundation.
Talent Show
The GMCH Talent Show gives the staff, parents, caregivers, volunteers, and children visiting George Mark Children’s House the opportunity to come together for an event that is 100% fun! Our first talent show was such a success we hope to do it at least once a year! Singing, poetry, dog tricks and folks showing off their musical abilities are the highlights of the day. Every performer is a superstar!
Family Picnic
The Family Picnic at GMCH invites families and children who have stayed at the house back for a day of fun and friendship. We barbeque the burgers and hot dogs and everyone else brings a side dish to share. It is truly a treat to feast upon so many wonderful dishes as we have served over 20 ethnicities since we opened our doors. Highlights include; face painting, live music, games, a visit with miniature horses, and a chance for families to meet each other, and with our Spiritual Care Coordinator.
Pumpkin Day
Tricks or Treats abound during our Halloween parade! Goblins, ghosts, and princesses are everywhere filling their bags with treats. Our kitchen staff prepares a ghoulish lunch for all to feast upon.
Children's Remembrance Day
GMCH honors National Children’s Remembrance Day with a ceremony in our Sanctuary. Family members and staff participate in a candle lighting ceremony. Each child who has passed away at GMCH has his or her name said aloud, and family members can say a few words. Art for Life Foundation provides an activity wherein family members are given a chance to create a memory box or some other keepsake.
