September Update

We are very pleased to be able to say the House is re-opening on Tuesday, Oct. 5. Staff will be welcomed back on Monday, October 4. I would like to share with you the enormous strides we have made in the last few months: the State confirmed that our current license permits us to provide sub-acute care. Insurance companies are meeting with us to negotiate reimbursement rates. Our new Strategic Plan has been written as well as a White Paper that confirms that care at George Mark Children's House dramatically reduces costs and re-hospitalizations. In addition, we are working on partnership agreements with several health care facilities. We have reduced expenses by re-evaluating staffing requirements, by outsourcing several administrative functions including Human Resources and Accounting, by using Volunteers instead of staff to do many things around the House, and by outsourcing Food Service to Fairmont Hospital.

We are doing all of this to be a more sustainable organization. There will necessarily be changes in some policies and procedures and we expect that everyone will be flexible and strive to make the new model work. Thank you all for you continued commitment to George Mark. We couldn't exist without volunteers in the past and we certainly won't be able to provide comprehensive care to children and support to their families, without on-going help in the future.
